A SMALL COLLECTION OF ANTIQUE SILVER AND OBJECTS OF VERTU

silver holy water font - Italy

version francaise
Italian holy water font silversmith Bartolomeo Valazza A holy water font with floral garlands showing traces of end 18th century taste. The item has hallmarks of Italy's Kingdom (Regno d'Italia) created by Austria in Veneto and Lombardia territories at the fall of Napoleonic domination. The holy water font has hallmark of Venice, purity mark "Mondo e Trioni" (Earth sorrounded by 7 planets: 800/1000 silver) and a V with a pair of crossed swords corresponding to silversmith Bartolomeo Valazza who had workshop in Venice (at the address San Marco 357) around 1820/1830.
The holy water font is 7 1/2 in. (cm. 18) high and 3 1/2" wide (cm. 8,5) and belonged to my mother's family, living in Pellestrina, once a fisherman's island of Venetian Lagoon.
This item is not for sale, but most of my pieces were bought through the Internet. On the right bar of this page there are some advertisings of websites of silver and antique dealers
