silver sugar tongs - Austriathis is a pair of silver sugar tongs made in Temesvar (Austria) at the beginning of the 19th century. They have "andiron (fire iron)" shape, plain body, scalloped grips and are hallmarked with Temesvar town mark (1810), maker (SS) and the "anvil mark" used in the Lombardo Veneto (Austrian possession) for 800/1000 silver. I believe that, in this case, the "anvil mark" was requested and used as an 'import mark'. These silver tongs are 5 1/4 in. long (cm. 13,3) and were bought from an Italian dealer through the Internet. This item is not for sale, but most of my pieces were bought through the Internet.
