silver letter opener - Russia
this silver letter opener was made in St. Petersburg (Russia) around 1900. It bears hallmarks of
St.Petersburg (in use after 1896), purity degree 84 (zolotnicki, 875/1000 silver) and silversmith's
mark A.C.The silver handle has the shape of an elephant's head while the blade is made of celluloid similar to ivory.
The letter opener is 10 1/4 in. long (cm. 26,5) while the silver handle is 4 in. long (cm. 10). The letter opener was bought from an US dealer through the Internet.
