Mappin & Webb pierced basket - England

Mappin & Webb pierced basket on pedestal foot this is a sterling silver hand pierced basket on pedestal foot made by silversmith Mappin & Webb.
It has cast raised flower blossoms around the top as well as on the botton edging. It bears English hallmarks: crown (city of Sheffield), lion (sterling silver), letter 'b' (1919) and M&W (silversmith Mappin & Webb). The basket is also marked Mappin & Webb London.
Mappin & Webb is one of the UK's leading retailer of jewellery and silverware and takes its origin from a small silversmith workshop opened in Sheffield by Jonathan Mappin in 1774. In the following years business grew and was expanded by its heirs. In 1858 George Webb (brother-in-law of John Newton Mappin) joned in the business creating Mappin & Webb firm. In 1897 Mappin & Webb was granted of the Royal Warrants for silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen.
The silver basket is 2 1/4 in. high (cm. 6) and 4 1/8 in. (10,5 cm.) across the top and was bought from a Canadian dealer through the Internet.

This item is not for sale, but most of my pieces were bought through the Internet. On the bottom and on the right bar of this page there are some links to silver and antique dealers websites
